How to Have Good Dental Health

    Last updated 6 months ago

Taking care of your teeth is important not only to your oral health, but also your overall wellbeing. Good oral health is more than just brushing your teeth. Take a look at this short video from CNN to learn a few great tips on maintaining excellent dental health.

When you brush your teeth, be sure to brush in a circular motion so that the process is less abrasive to your teeth and gums. You should brush at least twice per day, and wait about 30 minutes after a meal to brush. Remember to floss correctly and visit your dentist twice per year for cleanings and checkups. If you are a smoker, consider quitting in order to improve your oral health.

One of the best ways to take good care of your teeth is to visit a great dentist. Call The Smile Design Center of Baltimore at (443) 275-9821 to learn how we can help you achieve optimal dental health.

    • I had a terrific experience. From my arrival, I was made to feel very welcome by Vicky. I was offered a beverage, given a tour, and constantly asked if I needed anything throughout treatment. Vicky was friendly, engaging, and thorough. The other staff whom I met briefly were also kind, and the facility was well kept. I would definitely... More

What Are Common Causes of Tooth Discoloration?

    Last updated 6 months ago

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. A bright, white smile can convey a sense of confidence and self-assurance to people you encounter in your professional and personal life. A great cosmetic dentist can help you achieve your best smile even if you have dental issues. Teeth whitening is perhaps the most common cosmetic dental procedure today. For a look at some of the common causes of tooth discoloration and how whitening can help, keep reading.

    Diet
Many people enjoy foods and beverages that can cause discoloration of the teeth. Coffee and tea are two of the biggest culprits, especially since they are drinks enjoyed habitually by a great number of people. Soda and wine are also guilty of causing tooth discoloration. Proper brushing and flossing can help to minimize these stains, but if you are concerned about the whiteness of your teeth, talk to your cosmetic dentist about procedures to dramatically correct discoloration.

    Tobacco Use
Tobacco in all of its forms is widely known to be detrimental to your health. Smoking can cause cancer, heart problems, and emphysema, among other diseases. Regular use of smoking or chewing tobacco can also cause severe discoloration of the teeth. Tobacco users may notice their teeth become yellow or brown over time. Teeth whitening or even porcelain veneers may be in order if you have serious discoloration issues. Speak with your cosmetic dentist to explore your options.

    Age
With age, the enamel of the teeth starts to wear away. Thin enamel may expose the dentin underneath. This can lead to a yellowish appearance of the teeth, and unlike diet or tobacco use, is much more difficult to prevent. A great cosmetic dentist will be able to discuss your options for whitening teeth that are discolored due to age.

A healthy, white smile can be a great asset to you at any stage of life. If you think your smile could use improvement, contact The Smile Design Center of Baltimore at (443) 275-9821 to find out about our cosmetic dental procedures, including Zoom! bleaching.

    • I have been afraid to do professional whitening since I can remember. Any time I had tried it at other dentists, I never noticed the difference...Then I found Dr. Myron Kellner and his team. The moment I left the office I saw the difference, as did all of my co-workers and those that know me. It's incredible to smile even whiter and brighter.... More

    • Both Dr. Kellner and Dr. Fishman have been nothing, but accommodating to my fiance and I. Making Saturday appointments and coming in for emergencies. They will check on you when you're home after a procedure as well. Also, the staff there makes the entire experience comfortable and somewhat exciting to actually be at the dentist. I would... More
