    Tips For Whiter, Brighter Teeth

    Last updated 1 year ago

Everyone wants a bright, white, beautiful smile. A gorgeous smile helps you exude confidence and makes you more approachable in social scenarios. Sometimes, even if you keep up with routines visits to the dentist, stains can occur on your teeth. Here are some tips for achieving a glistening smile.

    • The White Teeth Diet

What you eat and drink can have a major impact on your pearly whites. Red wine, coffee, cigarettes, cigars, dark soda, and dark juices can all stain your teeth. To avoid any discoloration after consuming these foods and drinks, follow each meal by brushing with whitening toothpaste. “Crunchy” foods such as apples, carrots, celery help to create saliva, which can minimize the formation of stains. Eating strawberries is also a great, natural way to whiten teeth.

    • Proper Brushing and Flossing

For healthy and white teeth, it’s important that you use proper brushing and flossing techniques. Also, change your toothbrush every two to three months to ensure continued effectiveness. Remember to clean your tongue when brushing to avoid bad bacteria that causes halitosis and discoloration of your teeth.

    • Gargling

In the morning, brush and floss as usual. Afterwards, gargle with apple cider vinegar to help whiten teeth and kill bacteria.

    • Antibiotics

Some medications cause yellowing. Before you take certain medicines, speak with your doctor and dentist to see if there’s anything you can do to take the requisite medication without staining teeth.

Before you try any at-home whitening methods, you should always consult with your dentist. There are other treatments, such as porcelain veneers and Zoom! whitening, that can transform your smile entirely. Your dentist will advise you on the best treatment to whiten your teeth.

    Options For Correcting Tooth Loss

    Last updated 1 year ago

Tooth loss can be caused by many factors, including tooth decay, gingivitis, and TMJ disorder. Left untreated; tooth loss causes beauty and functionality of the mouth to be diminished. While modern dentistry has improved the overall quality of one’s teeth, tooth loss can still occur. Here are some of the latest options for correcting tooth loss.

    • Dental Implants

Dental implants provide a fixed, permanent, and natural-feeling solution to missing teeth. Dental implants are artificial roots that are inserted into the jaw and serve as anchors for prosthetic teeth. The implants are natural looking, strong, and durable. They are a great alternative to partial or complete dentures, as they provide outstanding support and stability.

    • Inlay and Onlay Restorations

Inlay restorations are a custom filling made of composite material, gold, or porcelain. They can repair teeth that have large flawed fillings or have been damaged due to injury. Onlay restorations, also known as a partial crown, are identical to inlay restorations except that they are used if one or more of the chewing cusps have been damaged.

    • Crowns

Crowns are coverings that conceal the entire tooth, restoring it to its original appearance. A crown is a last resort treatment when fillings or other types of restorations will not work to repair a tooth.

    • Fixed Bridges

A dental bridge is permanent way to replace missing teeth. The traditional consists of two crowns that have been fused together in order to secure and completely replace a lost tooth. Bridges are generally affixed to intact teeth adjacent to the empty spaces in order to ensure that they do not shift.

You don’t need to be embarrassed by a missing tooth any longer. Our team at The Smile Design Center can help you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile. Call our Baltimore office at (443) 275-9821 to schedule an appointment with a great Baltimore area dentist.

Dental Health: What Are Bitewing X-Rays?

    Last updated 1 year ago

If you’ve recently had dental x-rays, then you’re probably curious about why your dentist takes so many different images of your teeth from so many different angles.

This video provides an overview on bitewing x-rays and their uses. Bitewing x-rays are taken in a series of 2 or 4 and are used to examine the sides of your teeth and gums. While your general dentist can identify cavities on the top surface of your teeth using a number of instruments, bitewing x-rays are the only way to determine if you’re suffering from decay in between your teeth. Watch the video below to learn more about bitewing x-rays:
