When you visit your dentist, he will check your mouth for anything unusual, including signs of cancer. In this video, you’ll learn what symptoms to check while you're at home.
Mouth Cancers usually form on the lumps on the cheeks or soft palate. These lumps are painless, though they may sometimes bleed. Cancerous lumps may appear red or white and will grow over time; mouth cancer may eventually spread to other parts of the body. Tobacco is by far the number-one cause of mouth cancer.
At The Smile Design Center in Baltimore, we always check for signs of disease when cleaning our patients’ teeth or performing dental procedures. We also use Vizilite Plus to check for any signs of cancer. Mouth cancer is very treatable, but early detection is important. To schedule an appointment in our office, call (443) 275-9821.

Many factors can cause discolored teeth: coffee, tea, tobacco use, excessive fluoridation, and even natural aging. No matter the cause, stained and yellowed teeth can be embarrassing. Whitening toothpastes can help, but some stains are too stubborn to respond to over-the-counter solutions. If you’re ready to truly whiten your teeth, The Smile Design Center can help. Our Zoom! teeth whitening system gives you the brightest smile possible.
Hydrogen peroxide, the active ingredient in the Zoom! whitening gel, allows oxygen to enter the tooth enamel, effectively bleaching it. Though hydrogen peroxide is powerful on its own, Zoom! increases its whitening power by using a special light, which helps the reactive gel penetrate further into the enamel and even into the dentin, the layer of tooth inside the enamel. Patients can watch TV or listen to music in our office while their teeth whiten by up to eight shades in only 45 minutes. It is important to note that Zoom! will only work on natural tooth enamel, not fillings, so old fillings may need to be replaced to match your teeth’s new shade.
- Can Everyone Benefit from Zoom! Whitening?
Almost any adult is a good candidate for this whitening solution. Though it is effective and safe, the Zoom! whitening system may not be ideal if you have severe dental anxiety or a sensitive gag reflex.
- How Effective is the Zoom! System?
The Zoom! system is so effective that it has been used on ABC’s Extreme Makeover. Its effects can last for years, with occasional weekend and overnight touch-ups. Good dental hygiene is also important. Remember to brush and floss twice a day to keep your teeth as bright as possible.
Everyone wishes their teeth could be whiter. Zoom! teeth whitening makes it easy to get the bright, white smile of your dreams. If you’re interested in setting up an appointment for a Zoom! session or any of our other services, call The Smile Design Center’s office at (443) 275-9821.

Missing teeth can make patients feel self-conscious and lead to pain, discomfort, and even loss of oral bone. Fortunately, The Smile Design Center has a solution to this problem: dental implants. Read on for more information about how our office can replace your missing teeth.
- What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant comprises an artificial tooth and root, which is usually made of titanium. The root is surgically implanted into a patient’s jaw bone. The bone then heals around and integrates with the artificial root, anchoring it securely. At this point, the dentist will attach the artificial tooth, which will be covered with a crown matched to the color of the other teeth. Each part of this process is carefully customized for each individual patient’s mouth. The dentist will take a mold of the patient’s bite and use this to determine how large the replacement tooth should be and where it should sit in the mouth. Dental implants can also be used to support dental bridges and anchor dentures securely.
- What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?
When you get a dental implant, the first thing you’ll notice is the dramatic change in your smile. You may have been embarrassed about your missing tooth and reluctant to smile, but an implant will restore your confidence along with the natural appearance of your teeth. Many patients missing teeth have trouble speaking or eating, but dental implants eliminate these issues. You’ll be able to eat, speak, chew, and smile comfortably. Implants also resolve jaw or bone pain that may have been caused by shifting teeth. Dental implants are more convenient to maintain than dentures and can be brushed and flossed just like natural teeth. Also, dental implants are durable and can usually last a lifetime, so there’s no worry about them breaking or falling out.
If you’re missing one or more teeth, call The Smile Design Center of Baltimore to see if a dental implant is right for you. You can reach our office by calling (443) 275-9821.

Having a bright and beautiful white smile is one of the most, if not the most, attractive features on any person. Whether your teeth are perfectly straight or not, having them bright white is something that makes any person feel great about themselves and allows them to share their smile with the world on a daily basis. Through the years, our teeth become discolored from things such as medication, soda, smoking, genetics, and poor dental hygiene. Even if a person practices a great dental health regimen including daily brushing and flossing and regular visits to the dentist, their teeth can still become discolored. For this very reason, people seek the help of cosmetic dentists for tooth whitening treatments. Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a great and highly effective way to remove the years of stains and discoloration on your teeth.
Zoom! tooth whitening is an affordable and safe procedure available at Dr. Myron Kellner’s The Smile Design Center for those searching to improve the overall look of their smile and brighten and enhance their pearly whites.
