Signs of Gingivitis

Last updated 4 years ago

Do you ever notice that your gums hurt when you brush and floss your teeth? Do your gums bleed even when you brush gently? If so, you may have gingivitis, the earliest stage of periodontal disease.

Gingivitis is the most common form of periodontitis  and can progress into more severe periodontal disease if left untreated. In addition to swollen and bleeding gums, the symptoms of gingivitis include chronic bad breath, receding gums, loose teeth, and changes in the way your teeth fit together. The good news is that gingivitis is very treatable, so ask your dentist what you can do to reverse the early symptoms of periodontal disease. If you let your gingivitis go untreated, it can advance and destroy gum tissue and bone, which may eventually lead to tooth loss.
